Tezos was created by Arthur and Kathleen Breitman, who published a white paper about it in 2014 under the pseudonym L.M. Goodman, a tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous figure behind Bitcoin. This was a nod to a journalist who had incorrectly identified the creator of Bitcoin.
