U.S. Launches DOGE Initiative to Modernize Federal IT Systems

The U.S. government is taking a significant step to modernize technology with the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This initiative aims to streamline federal systems, enhance productivity, and improve coordination across agencies.

An executive order by the President outlines plans to upgrade federal technology infrastructure and software systems. This marks the beginning of an 18-month agenda under DOGE, focusing on efficient data collection and seamless synchronization across government agencies.

Rebranding of the United States Digital Service

As part of this overhaul, the United States Digital Service (USDS) has been renamed the United States DOGE Service. Reporting directly to the White House Chief of Staff, this entity will oversee the implementation of DOGE’s objectives.

To ensure smooth execution, the U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization has been set up to guide the process. This group will operate until July 4, 2026, while the broader DOGE initiative continues to expand.

DOGE Teams Across Federal Agencies

Each federal agency is now required to form a DOGE team to support the modernization goals. These teams must include a team lead, an engineer, a human resources specialist, and an attorney.

Agency heads are tasked with assembling their teams within 30 days in collaboration with the USDS Administrator. These teams will provide guidance on modernization efforts and coordinate activities with the central DOGE Service.

The USDS Administrator is also responsible for improving government-wide IT infrastructure, ensuring communication between agency systems, and safeguarding data integrity. The initiative prioritizes secure access to unclassified records and systems, adhering to strict data protection standards.
