Symbiotic mainnet goes live on Ethereum

Symbiotic, a permissionless restaking platform, has officially launched its protocol on the Ethereum mainnet.

The platform announced the milestone via a blog post on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

By going live on the Ethereum (ETH) mainnet, Symbiotic becomes the first restaking protocol to “launch a feature-complete shared security protocol with slashing.”

The protocol’s mainnet launch follows nearly two years of rigorous research and security validation, which included five independent audits. Symbiotic also hosted a code competition, and its deployment on Ethereum introduces the benefits of permissionless shared security to the ecosystem.

According to the blog post, multiple crypto integrations are leveraging this innovation—from zero-knowledge proof marketplaces to artificial intelligence systems, cross-chain messaging protocols, and data availability solutions. These protocols utilize Symbiotic to meet diverse security requirements while maintaining protocol sovereignty.

Some of the projects leveraging this architecture include Capx, an Ethereum layer 2 for AI agents, and HyveDA, a decentralized data availability platform.

Other integrations include the interoperability toolkit Hyperlane, circuit-agnostic ZK proof marketplace Kalypso by Marlin, cross-chain liquidity protocol Symbiosis, and L1 chain Router. Overall, nearly 50 networks, 55 vaults and 78 operators integrate with Symbiotic.

Symbiotic unveiled its devnet in August 2024, with this coming just months after the platform’s stealth launch. The team initially expected the mainnet deployment in Q3 2024.

The platform raised $5.8 million in seed funding in June, backed by Paradigm and cyber.Fund, among other crypto venture capital firms.
